SHIPSHAPE DAY

Keith Wall, Group Chairman

Our next Shipshape Day will be on Saturday 9th January 2010 9am-1pm. This is when we look after our building and the surrounding areas.

All are welcome, just turn up at HQ on Saturday and lend a helping hand. Please bring a few tools or cleaning accessories to help with your chosen task. There are many things at HQ already, but the items might not suit everyone and aren’t always easy to find.

We spend a couple of hours clearing up, sorting out, tidying away and generally getting our HQ “Shipshape”. Its great fun and a good opportunity to meet people and make new friends.

For a task list, please click here or contact our Group Chairman, Keith Wall, on batchworth.chairman@ntlworld.com or 01923 777340. We look forward to seeing you.

OH NO IT WASN'T. OH YES IT WAS!

The District Scouts and Guides had booked the whole of Watersmeet theatre on Sunday 13th December for 1.30 pm showing of  Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Spells, trickery and evilness was dished up in true panto villainous style by Allo, Allo's Kim Hartman, who was aided and abetted by Emmerdale's Richard Grieves as The Henchman.

There were 22 members of Batchworth in the audience: beavers, cubs, sisters, parents, and leaders.  One of our Cubs had his birthday announced and was presented with a goody bag on stage. All the beavers, cubs and parents behaved themselves and it was a fantastic afternoon out at the panto!

The beavers who attended were asked what they liked best about the pantomime, and they really struggled to find an answer because they liked all of it!!   However, when pressed, they were excited about the seats they had because they got covered in the foam snow at the end.

A leader attending was left almost helpless with giggles - when the handsome prince was trying to wake Snow White up with a kiss and she was being slow, a young voice behind her shouted "You're not doing it right!". Makes it all worthwhile.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

On the 12th December, Headquarters was again host to a Batchworth party. The hall echoed to sounds both old and new as the youngsters entertained us with traditional sketches and a drum solo from George Melling. There was the usual routine of raffle and games, together with excellent food served hot, would you believe it, from the galley by Beccy and her willing team of volunteers. Thanks to all who helped and all who came to make it another memorable occasion.

A long service award was presentation to Quentin Webb. A gift was also given to Charles Hirst, to thank him for his time as GSL with the group, by Peter Edwards, our District Commissioner.

Everyone at Batchworth Sea Scouts would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

A big thank you to all the parents and helpers who put in the extra effort to make 2009 such a special year. Why not make a new year's resolution to take a more active role in Scouting. There is always lots to do at Batchworth. Come along, do something different and make some new friends into bargain!
